OK folks, this is where the rubber meets the road or probably better said, "this is where your wallet meets a broken 6.0L or 6.4L Powerstroke truck. The decisions you will make after EDAS® alerts could greatly affect your financial future!
With that said, lets put some perspective on the situation.
Personal safety should always be foremost in your decisions! Messing around under the hood of a HOT DIESEL ENGINE is not for everyone and can be dangerous if you are not cautious. That's why we have put together a couple of important education tools to help you out.
First, we have the video above that will familiarize you with the steps you can take roadside when the EDAS® System alerts. It is a great background education that will prepare any driver or owner for the diagnostic procedures that can be performed roadside when the time comes that EDAS® eventually alerts.
Second, we include a written "Roadside Checklist" with each EDAS® Kit that SHOULD BE KEPT AT ALL TIMES IN THE VEHICLE. This Roadside Checklist has information about how to handle an EDAS® alert while you are on the road. Make sure to ALWAYS KEEP A COPY IN THE VEHICLE AT ALL TIMES! If you don't have a copy make sure you download the checklist from the link above and put it in the vehicle!
Every driver who will be driving an EDAS® equipped truck should watch the above video at least once! The video will give them the basic background information to handle a roadside situation when EDAS® alerts. They will be aware of the Roadside Checklist, which should always be kept in the vehicle, and be able to more easily follow the directions in the checklist while roadside.
Remember, EDAS®
was installed on the vehicle for a reason. When it alerts, make sure safety is the top priority. BUT, also remember that EDAS® is your early warning device that there is a problem with the cooling system of the truck. If you keep driving the vehicle after you have checked the coolant level and EDAS® keeps alerting you are "dancing with the devil"! My final piece of advise is to tell you that having your truck towed is cheap when compared to the repair bill you will experience if you continue to drive the truck with a compromised cooling system. ~Bill Hewitt
