EDAS® will not work properly without the cooling system being 100% leak free. That means NO LEAKS WHATSOEVER! Also, the only way for you to test your new installation of EDAS® is a cooling system pressure test.
Pressure testing a cooling system is not hard. It requires a pressure test kit, a flashlight, some rags and about one hour of your time. The video to the right will give you all the details to properly test both your cooling system integrity and the operational readiness of your new EDAS® installation.
Step-1: Rent a Cooling System Pressure Kit FREE!Most of the major aftermarket part houses have a FREE tool loan program. The way the program work is you put-up the full purchase price of the kit as a deposit. When you return the kit
the parts house will refund all your money making the tool rental absolutely FREE!
Step-2: Hook-up The Pressure Tester & Conduct Some Tests!
Now that you have the FREE pressure testing kit at your disposal, it's time to select the appropriate adapters for the job and hook-up the tester to the coolant bottle. Begin pressurizing the cooling system using the hand pump. At around 16 psi. you should hear the EDAS® System's alert begin to sound off. (This means the EDAS®
installation is working properly -- CONGRADULATIONS!) Leave the cooling system pressurized and continue with the next step.
Step-3: Verify Cooling System Integrity!
Now that you have verified that your new EDAS® installation is working properly, we need to verify that the cooling system can hold pressure with no leaks. Make a note of the pressure reading on the test gauge because we want the system to maintain pressure while we look it over for leaks. Using a flashlight you need to inspect the cooling system components for any leaks. See the video above for all the areas of the engine to check. If any leaks are found they must be repaired for EDAS® to protect your Powerstroke truck correctly!
Step-4: Check the Fluid Level --
The coolant level is very important for the proper operation of a 6.0L or 6.4L Powerstroke engine. The cooing system expansion bottle requires an "air gap" at the top of the bottle for proper expansion and contraction of pressure. The most common mistake made by Powerstroke owners is OVERFILLING THE BOTTLE! Regardless of whether the coolant is HOT or COLD never fill past the "MIN" level on the bottle! (See picture!) |
