Hear the EDAS Alert

Modern diesel cooling systems are subjected to severe heat loads, which taxes the integrity of the antifreeze. When antifreeze begins to breakdown, the additive package degrades forming clumps of material in the cooling system. 6.0L and 6.4L Powerstroke motors have three main coolers that can become compromised when this happens. They are:

  • The Radiator
  • EGR Cooler
  • Oil Cooler

When one or all of these of these cooling system components becomes compromised by debris a motor meltdown is just around the corner. In the old days you may have gotten away with neglecting the operational stability of your antifreeze, BUT NOT WITH A 6.0L OR 6.4L POWERSTROKE!

We see trucks day-in-and-day-out where the neglect of flushing and changing the antifreeze was the root cause of an expensive cooling system failure. (See Pictures Below!) Sure, it was the EGR cooler or oil cooler that failed, but it wouldn't have failed if it wasn't clogged with debris from the contaminated antifreeze! You should flush and refill the cooling system on a Powerstroke every 30K to 50K miles based on the duty severity of the vehicle. Since the 6.0L and 6.4L Powerstroke's are so prone to cooling system failures we recommend that you change the coolant every 30K miles... It's just cheap insurance!

The concept of EDAS® is Engine Damage Avoidance and having a clean cooling system free of contaminants that is working at 100% is priority one! Watch the video above about doing your own cooling system flush and get-r-done. ~Bill Hewitt

Pictures of a Contaminated Cooling System...

Ever wonder why radiators, EGR coolers and oil coolers clog up, then fail and melt down a Powerstroke? Below are pictures from a Powerstroke that had contaminated antifreeze. This is what the inside of the cooling system looks like when the antifreeze breaks down. Once antifreeze is compromised it can no longer protect the engine against corrosion and clumps of debris clog the vital cooling pathways compromising the motor. Be smart and change your coolant often or you will be sorry... (Click on pictures for larger view)
