"Engine Damage Avoidance System"

EDAS® is not just a simple pressure gauge hooked up to a speaker. Modern diesel cooling systems are dynamic and meant to “vent”, so there are times when it is OK for the cooling system to temporarily exceed the pressure of the coolant bottle cap! Monitoring cooling system pressure requires a VERY ACCURATE pressure switch, which can live in a hostile ethylene glycol (antifreeze) environment. Switches designed to monitor oil pressure are only accurate to within ± 20%. Besides the accuracy being TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE the switch diaphragms will disintegrate within a few days when exposed just to the fumes generated by ethylene glycol rendering the switch totally useless.
